How much do we need to raise as a team?
Each team must commit to raising £5,000. This enables us to cover the costs of the event, such as bike hire.
If you are worried about hitting the £5,000 target, please get in touch as we can provide you with ideas on how to boost your fundraising such as starting early, sharing your fundraising with clients, friends and family, holding a series of smaller events in the lead-up to Tour de Law such as a staff social, quiz, raffle, sweepstake or bake sale. Many companies can match fund their employees’ fundraising, so please ask your employer.
If your team raised £10,000, we could fund 40 days of research into breast cancer. And every day in the lab brings us closer to making life-saving breakthroughs. We hope that the combined fundraising of all participating teams totals £150,000.
How far do we need to cycle?
We’re asking law firms to cycle as many kms as they can between 15 and 16 October.
Each firm will have 100 cycling slots to fill over the 2 days. Slots are only 15 minutes long and colleagues can sign up for as many, or as few, as they like, making the event accessible for both amateurs and your most competitive cycling enthusiasts.
You will attain landmark badges along the way, which will appear on your team fundraising page.
We will provide you with a cycle slots tracking sheet, which you can use to book in your cyclists and record your Kms. Once the competition is live, you will enter the Kms cycled into the distance tracker on your fundraising page and the live leaderboard will update on the Tour de Law website to show team’s positions in the competition.
When does it start?
We advise you start your fundraising as soon as you can.
The cycling challenge starts at 8am on Wednesday 15 October and will end promptly by 5pm on Thursday 16 October. You can cycle your 100 slots at any point between these times.
Fundraising can continue until the following week. See competition terms and conditions.
How do we take part?
Contact us on tourdelaw@breastcancernow.org and we will help you sign up your company and are very happy to arrange a call or meeting to answer any questions you have.
If you are ready to sign up, click on the SIGN UP button to create and set up your fundraising page.
You will have to sign a Letter of Agreement to take part in the event.
Are we taking part in teams?
You will be competing as a whole office as one team and there are many ways your colleagues can get involved. Colleagues can sign up to as many or as few 15-minute cycling slots as they would like. Encourage everyone to get behind your team and sponsor a cyclist, ask your firm to match fund what you raise, and get cracking with some fundraising on the side such as a quiz, raffle, bake sale or social.
Individual cyclists in your team can share the fundraising page with their friends, family and networks. This is a great way to maximise your fundraising and engage family and friends outside the workplace. Please follow these instructions on how to set up your page here.
How do we recruit our cyclists?
Share the event with colleagues on your internal communication networks. Use our useful recruitment video to get your colleagues to sign up to a cycling slot and to generate a buzz in the office about the event. See our resources page for videos to share and for social media resources.
How will we receive the bikes?
Two static bikes WattBikes will be delivered by an external company a couple of days before the event and collected the day after the event. We will need confirmation of a nominated person for the delivery on site, contact details and delivery address a few weeks prior to the event.
The bikes do not need a power supply and we suggest you choose a prominent location for them, such as the staff social area or lobby, to attract as much support as possible.
Upon the bikes’ arrival, please spend 5 minutes checking the bike and monitor are working correctly with the bike supplier. We must alert the bike supplier of any faults within 6 hours of delivery in order to ensure a speedy replacement.
How do we set up our bikes?
See our handy guide on how to set up your bike by clicking here. If you have any problems with the bikes during the event, the bike firm are on hand to trouble-shoot any problems.

We will also arrange to visit your team during the event if convenient and can jump on the bike to fill an empty cycling slot if required!

Who can take part in Tour de Law?
This event is open to the law sector and legal teams in other organisations. See our Class of 2024 to see who took part last year. Many firms take part annually and have taken part for over 10 years!
How do we log the distances recorded by cyclists?
Each cyclist will need to add their kilometres after they cycle by clicking the ‘log fitness’ button on your team’s fundraising page. The distance must be recorded after every 15 minute cycle slot even if the individual has booked two cycle slots in a row. Please enter distances up to two decimal places. View our how to video here.
- Go to your fundraising page on JustGiving
- Click on ‘Log a cycle’
- Enter your distance cycled
- Enter your time as 15 mins
- In the Description box, enter your full name e.g. Tom Thumb
It is important to upload your distances regularly to ensure the leaderboard is kept up to date.
You can log your distances in batches but all distances need to be logged by 5pm on Thursday 16 October. You cannot log more than 100 fifteen minute slots.
Is there a registration fee?
There is no registration fee, but you must sign the Letter of Agreement which confirms you are committing to raise £5,000 for breast cancer research and support. Please note, the charity will be charged the cost of renting the static bikes if you decide not to take part after signing up.

You can add any cash/cheques/Sumup donations to your fundraising page as offline donations and so that these add into your team’s fundraising total on the Tour de Law leaderboard.
Can we take card donations?
Breast Cancer Now can loan your team one of our Sumup tap to donate devices which will enable you to take card donations. Please contact the team to request a device tourdelaw@breastcancernow.org
How do we let you know about any match funding?
Matched funding is a very simple idea – you get your employer to agree to match the money you raise, usually pound-for-pound. This means that you could end up with up to double the donation you began with. Not all companies will be able to support you pound-for-pound, but they might be able to help by matching you up to a certain amount or matching 50% of what you fundraise. Any help is always appreciated, and every donation matters so please ask.
If you do have match funding confirmed by your company, please let us know, and this can be added to your fundraising total as an offline donation. We will provide you with all the information you need to arrange the match funding payment so please ask the team for more information tourdelaw@breastcancernow.org
Can we add offline donations (cash/cheques/Sumup funds raised) to our JustGiving page total?
Yes, please read this guide on how to add offline donations to your page and please let the Breast Cancer Now Team know you have added them so they can look out for these funds being paid in.
